PBCore is a metadata standard for audio and visual media. This gives people a standard model to describe their media (for example, format or date recorded). It also lets people catalog and manage their media in a way that is readily understandable to anyone else familiar with that standard.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting funded the development of this standard in order to serve the U.S. public broadcasting community. PBCore has been adopted by many users in public media, film archives, academic institutions, and other audiovisual collections and archives, such as Mandala Project.
