The Audio-Video tool is one tool within SHANTI's larger Mandala Suite of Tools. It is used for the creation and management of lets you make and manage audio and video files . There is no limit to the within the Mandala Suite. You can upload an unlimited number of items that users may upload.

An important, unique characteristic of Mandala is its ability to allow scholars to attach detailed metadata to media items. Scholars can describe video and audio files according to the PB Core metadata schema, which is the most widely used metadata standard for basic and technical information. To allow scholars to customize metadata even further, SHANTI has created Knowledge Maps. Knowledge Maps allow scholars to categorize and connect together different media items: a video, essay, and audio file could all be categorized under the same heading--or rather, put together into the same map. Scholars can either create their own categories, called Knowledge Map "terms," or use existing terms to group their media items together into a "Knowledge Map."

Once uploaded and cataloged, faceted browsing searching is made possible within the Audio-Video tool through the Solr search platform.

Access to media items for cataloging and transcription work (if the latter is a requirement) is organized through the construction of Projects.

Audio-Video's metadata capabilities makes it particularly useful for scholars. Audiovisual information fields follow the PBCore metadata schema, a widely-used metadata standard for broadcasting. In addition, Mandala's Knowledge Maps let scholars use labels to connect related media items.

Once you've added your files, you can find them with the search function. Tracking your workflow for files can help you make collaborative archive projects.
