You can choose to upload a video add videos from your computer, from your webcam, or from Metacafe. See the glossary definition of Metacafe for more information on this site. Use the steps below for videos under 2GB in size. You can import videos over 2GB if they have been uploaded to the web and have public URLs. In this case, please contact SHANTI staff.

By default, visitors can't see new entries. To make your media file publicly available, check Availability & Access in the editor. 

Upload a Video from Your Computer

  1. Log in to audio-video.shanti.virginia.edu
  2. Create a collection if you haven't alreadyOpen the Audio-Video homepage
  3. Find the "Add to Your Collections" section section 
    • Find this This section is on the right below the "Create a Collection" section, under the search icon
    • If you don't see the section, expand it by clicking the |< icon beneath the search icon
  4. Choose a collection from the drop-down menu
    • The drop-down menu
      will close,
      will close and
      will
      show the name of the collection 
  5. Click   Upload a Video
    • The "Create Video" page will open
  6. Click Click Media
    • The "Media" section will unfold 
  7. Click Click Add Media
    • The "Add Media" dialog box will appear 
  8. Click the Upload tab
    • The "Upload Video" screen will open

      open
  9. Choose a file
  10. Click Open
    • The dialog box will close, and the file will appear in the "Upload Video" list
  11. Click Upload
    • A dialog box will open, showing a status bar for the upload; when it finishes, you will be returned to the "Upload Video" list, and the file's status will be listed as "Done"
  12. Click Next
    • A window will load, allowing you to change the title of the media file and add tags
  13. Add at least a title
    • The video will not process without a title
  14. Click Next
    • A status bar will appear, and when the file is uploaded the dialog box will close
  15. Note that the video file is listed in the "Media" section of the "Create Video" page
  16. Click the sections below "Media" to add more settings, such as rights, availability, technical metadata, and so on
    • Remember, make your video public with the Availability & Access fields; videos are private by default
    • See the Add Information to Files guide for more information on editing these fields
  17. Click Save

Record a Video from Your Webcam

  1. the file you want to add to Mandala
  2. Click Upload
    • You'll see a progress bar for your upload
    • When the process is done, you'll see the file name next to "Choose File" 
  3. Click Submit
  4. Open the Audio-Video homepage
  5. Find the "Add to Your Collections" section
    • Find this section on the right below the "Create a Collection" section
  6. Choose a collection from the drop-down menu
    • The drop-down menu will close, and will show the name of the collection
  7. Click Upload a Video
    • The "Create Video" page will open
  8. Click Media
    • The "Media" section will unfold 
  9. Click Add Media
    • The "Add Media"
       dialog
      box will
      appear 
  10. Click the Webcam tab
    • The "Webcam" screen will open
  11. Click the Select a Webcam drop-down menu
  12. Choose a webcam
    • A dialog box will appear, asking for access to your webcam
  13. Click Allow
    • The dialog box will
      close
      and the webcam will turn on
  14. Click Record
    • The video will begin recording
  15. Click Stop when you are finished recording
  16. Click Next
    • A window will load, allowing you to change the title of the media file and add tags
  17. Add at least a title
    • The video will not process without a title
  18. Add your title in Title & Description section 
  19. Check the Availability & Access section
    • By default, only group members can see the entry; set this field to Public so all visitors can see it
    Click Next
    • A status bar will appear, and when the file is uploaded the dialog box will close
    • The video file will be listed in the "Media" section of the "Create Video" page
  20. Click the sections below "Media" to add more settings, such as rights, availability, technical metadata, and so on
    • These fields are all optional
    • Remember, make your video public with the Availability & Access fields; videos are private by default
    • See the Add Information to Files guide for help more information on editing these fields
  21. Click Save

Upload a Video from Metacafe 

  1. Click Save
    • A message will confirm your new video
  2. Open the Audio-Video homepage
  3. Find the "Add to Your Collections" section
    • Find this section on the right below the "Create a Collection" section
  4. Choose a collection from the drop-down menu
    • The drop-down menu will close, and will show the name of the collection
  5. Click Upload a Video 
    • The "Create Video" page will open
  6. Click Media
    • The "Media" section will unfold 
  7. Click Add Media
    • The "Add Media" dialog box will appear 
  8. Click the Metacafe tab
    • The "Metacafe" screen will open
  9. Type keywords into the search bar to find a video
  10. Click Search
    • Results will appear below the search bar
  11. Click on your chosen video
    • A plus sign will appear on the video
  12. Click Next
    • A window will load, allowing you to change the title of the media file and add tags
  13. Add at least a title
    • The video will not process without a title
  14. Click Next
    • A status bar will appear, and when the file is uploaded the dialog box will close
    • Find your new video file in the "Media" section of the "Create Video" page
  15. Click the sections below "Media" to add more settings, such as rights, availability, technical metadata, and so on
  16. Click Save
