  1. Go to https://to mandala.shanti.virginia.edu/places
    • The Places homepage will open
  2. Click the search icon
    • Find this button below the main menu This icon is a magnifying glass in the top right corner of the page
    • The Search window will expand
  3. Type your search a place name into the "Search Places" field
      To add filters to your search, click Advanced
      • A drop-down
        menu will appear displaying options for search filters
      1. Choose from among the filter options
      • You can select as many options as you want from the "Show only results containing" and "Show only feature types" menus
    • Click Enter
      • Find this button to the right of the search field
      • A list of places that fit your search criteria will appear at the bottom of the window
    • To view the search results in a hierarchy, click the Tree tab
      • Note that you can browse the tree results without entering a search query. Go to Browse Places for more information

      2. Click - to collapse a search result
    • To view the search results in a list format, click List
      1. Click the scroll bar buttons to browse the list results
      • list of place names will unfold in the "Results" tab
    • To filter your search, either click inside or type into the "Filter" fields
      • A drop-down list of results will unfold
    • Click a result from the list(s)
      • A drop-down list of results will unfold in "Results" tab
    • Use the arrow buttons as needed to view results
    • Click a place from the list
      • The node page for the place will open
      Click one of the search results
      • The Knowledge Maps Overview page will appear
