  1. Go to places.shanti.virginia.edu
  2. Click the search icon
    • This button is a magnifying glass in the top right corner of the page
    • The Search window will expand
  3. Type a place into the "Search Places" field
    • A list of places that fit your search criteria will appear in the "Results" tab at the bottom of the window
  4. To use search filters, click Advanced
    • A drop-down menu will expand showing options for search filters
    1. Choose the filters you want to use from the "Select Feature Types" and "Select Associated Subjects" menus
    • You can select as many options as you want from the filter menus
    • A list of places that fit your search criteria will appear at the bottom of the window
  5. Use the scroll bar buttons as needed to view results
  6. Click a place from the results
    • The Knowledge Maps Overview page will appear
