  1. Go to places.shanti.virginia.edu
  2. Click the search icon
    • This button is a magnifying glass in the top right of the page
    • The Search window will expand
  3. Type a place name into the "Search Places" field
    • A drop-down list of subject names will unfold in the "Results" tab
  4. To use search filters, click Advanced
    • Find this button below the "Search" field
    • A drop-down menu will expand
    1. Either: Type a filter into the "Select Feature Types" and "Select Associated Subjects" fields
    2. Or: Click inside the "Select Feature Types" and "Select Associated Subjects" fields
      • A drop-down menu will unfold
    3. Select as many options as you want from the filter drop-down menus
    • A list of places that fit your search criteria will appear at the bottom of the window
  5. Use the arrow buttons as needed to view results
  6. Click a place from the results
    • The Knowledge Maps Overview page will appear
