Definition:

PBCore is a metadata standard for audio and visual media. In other words, it provides users with a standard model to describe aspects of their media, such as its format or date recorded. It also allows users to catalog and manage their media in a way that is readily understandable to anyone else familiar with that standard.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting funded the development of this standard in order to serve the U.S. public broadcasting community. PBCore has been adopted by many users in public media, film archives, academic institutions, and other audiovisual collections and archives, such as the SHANTI Mediabase.
