You may want to add alternate names to your Knowledge Map. For example, Mumbai was known as Bombay under British colonial rule, so adding both names can provide important historical context. To add an alternate name: 

  1. Edit the Knowledge Map
  2. Click Names
    • The Names field will show you current names
  3. Click New Name
    • A page with metadata fields for your new name will open
  4. Enter your alternate name in the "Places" field
  5. Fill out the rest of the fields
    • The "Etymology" field lets you write a brief summary of the name's origin
  6. Click Create
    • You'll see your new name appear, with additional options
  7. Add optional Citation, Notes, and Dates for your name
